Specialty Exam Policies
Candidates interested in obtaining a Specialty Certificate upon completion of a NCBTMB Approved Specialty Certificate Program must first apply on exam.ncbtmb.org. Along with the application, candidates shall be responsible for the Ninety-Five Dollar ($95.00) Specialty Exam fee. Payment can be submitted online at exam.ncbtmb.org. A candidate will not be able to take the Specialty Exam until the Specialty Certificate Program is completed, the appropriate application is submitted on exam.ncbtmb.org, and due payment is received. Once approved, you will have 30 days to take your exam.
Failed Exams
Each candidate who takes a Specialty Exam shall have three (3) chances to pass the exam. Each time he/she needs to retake the exam, a candidate will pay an additional $95. If a candidate fails all three (3) attempts, such candidate must take the full Specialty Certificate Program again before attempting to take the Specialty Exam for a fourth time. After taking the Specialty Certificate Program again, a candidate will be given another three (3) chances to pass the Program Exam before being required to retake the Specialty Certificate Program.
A candidate may attempt an NCBTMB Specialty Certificate Exam a maximum of six (6) times. No refunds will be issued for failed exams.
Refund Policy
To receive a refund for a NCBTMB Specialty Certificate exam, you must cancel your application prior to receiving access to the exam. Access to Specialty Certificate Exams is granted upon approval of your Specialty Certificate Application.
Refunds must be requested within 30 days from the date NCBTMB receives your application on exam.ncbtmb.org. If you have not yet received access to a Specialty Exam at the time of request, fees are refundable less a $25 processing fee. If you have received access to a Specialty Exam at the time of request, fees are non-refundable.
On the Specialty Certificate Exam application, candidates are required to attest that they are eligible to receive a NCBTMB Specialty Certificate. Not disclosing disqualifying events on an application for a Specialty Exam will result in no refund being given.
If, for any reason, any part of your application is denied, refunds will not be issued.
Confidentiality Policy
A candidate’s performance on the Specialty Certificate exam shall remain confidential unless otherwise stipulated by the examinee.
Records Retention
All applications for Specialty Certificate Exams, and their supporting documentation, will be maintained by NCBTMB for a period of four (4) years. These documents shall remain confidential and destroyed after the four-year cycle is complete.
NCBTMB will maintain electronic records of all applicants and certificate holders, subject to the retention policy. Test scores (passing and failing) are maintained indefinitely for all candidates in a secure electronic format.
